Today, I pause to reflect — not just on the business I’ve built, but on the person who played a significant role in helping me get to where I am, both spiritually and personally.
This blog post is being shared intentionally today, because September 30th was the birthday of Apostle Henry A. Moultrie II, founder and former pastor of the Mission Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ in Somerville, MA. He passed earlier this year, but his impact lives on — in the lives he touched, the prayers he prayed, and in the many seeds of faith he helped plant, including the one that became this business.
The Message That Changed Everything
Before The Wright Memories existed, I was walking through a very difficult season — I had a seizure disorder that made it hard to keep a job, student loan debt that threatened my parents’ home, and no real clarity on what to do next.
It was during a New Year’s Eve service when Apostle Moultrie preached a message about the power of prayer. He reminded us that we needed to act in faith — to believe God and bring our requests before Him. He mentioned the church’s prayer box and encouraged us to write our prayers down.
That message stuck with me.
I wrote three requests and placed them in the box just after midnight:
-
That I would find a job so I could contribute toward paying off my student loans.
-
That the student loan situation would be resolved without my parents losing their home.
-
That I would be healed from my seizure disorder, something I had battled for over a decade.
I let go in faith. I didn’t expect immediate answers — I thought it would take months, maybe years. But God had other plans.
Six hours later, at 6 AM on New Year’s Day, I got a call from someone I barely knew. They said:
“I’m sorry to bother you so early, but the Lord laid it on my heart that you might need a job.”
That was the beginning.
I accepted the job — not just because I needed it, but because I saw it as a clear and unmistakable sign that God had heard me. The timing alone was enough to know He was listening. But even then, I didn’t realize that God had something bigger in store. I eventually had a seizure while working and couldn’t continue with that job — but the Lord was already paving a different path forward.
When it came time to go to court over the student loan situation, the lawyer presented my medical condition, and the judge forgave the debt. My parents’ home was safe.
Shortly after that, I had one final seizure — and I’ve never had one since.
All three prayers were answered — one after another — in a matter of months. And the faith I had that night, sparked by Apostle Moultrie’s words, carried me into a new chapter. It eventually led to the birth of this business.
A Man Who Lived What He Preached
Apostle Moultrie was not just a man of faith — he lived it out. He visited me in the hospital. He encouraged me when I was uncertain. And as someone who had overcome a brain tumor himself, he was a living testimony that God is a healer and a keeper.
He didn’t just preach about victory — he walked in it.
Honoring His Life Through My Work
Years later, I had the privilege of honoring him in return. The Wright Memories was chosen to create a few special pieces to recognize Apostle Moultrie’s legacy. These included:
-
✝️ A Crystal Cross Award – presented during the Sunday School 50th Anniversary
-
📜 A Custom Scroll Plaque – gifted during Mission Church’s 50th Anniversary
-
🧼 A Preacher’s Towel, embroidered with his name — one of several personal gifts created with love
Creating those items meant so much to me — not because of the work itself, but because of who they were for.
His Legacy Lives On
Even in his absence, Apostle Moultrie’s influence continues. His faith, strength, and encouragement helped change the course of my life. And for that, I’ll always be grateful.
“Well done, thou good and faithful servant. Enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.”
— Matthew 25:21
With gratitude,
